A Guide to Wedding Photography Prices in Singapore: What Affects the Cost

Your wedding photographs are one of the few things from the day that you keep for the rest of your life. So it is no surprise that choosing a photographer is one of the biggest decisions in wedding planning, and one of the most confusing when it comes to price. Ask a handful of photographers for a quote and the numbers can be very far apart. (If you are still at the shortlisting stage, our guide to questions to ask a wedding photographer is a good place to start.)

A higher price is not automatically better, and a lower one is not automatically a bargain. What matters is what you are actually getting for the money. Here are the eight things that most affect the cost of wedding photography in Singapore, and what to check for each one.

1. Hours of Coverage

The number of hours a photographer spends at your wedding is the biggest single factor in the price. A short solemnisation and a day that runs from make-up to the end of the reception are very different jobs.

What to check:

  • Start and finish: exactly when the photographer arrives and when they leave.
  • What happens if it runs late: whether extra time is available and how it is charged.
  • Breaks in the day: how a gap between a morning ceremony and an evening reception is handled.

Worth paying more for if: your day has several parts, such as getting ready, a ceremony and a reception, and you want all of them remembered.

2. Number of Photographers

Some photographers work alone; some studios send a team of two or more. A second photographer can cover two places at once, such as the bride and groom getting ready in different homes.

What to check:

  • Who is coming: how many people, and who they are.
  • Whose style you get: whether the second photographer’s pictures match the main one’s.
  • Like for like: that you are comparing quotes with the same number of photographers.

Worth paying more for if: you have a very large guest list, or two things happening at the same time in different places.

3. Number of Edited Photographs

“Up to 250 edited pictures” and “every photo we take” are not the same promise. More is not always better: a carefully chosen, carefully edited set often tells the story of the day more clearly than thousands of near-identical frames.

What to check:

  • The number: a clear figure, not “all the good ones”.
  • What “edited” means: colour and exposure on every picture, or more detailed retouching.
  • Who chooses: whether you choose some of the pictures yourself.

Worth paying more for if: you would rather have a smaller set of strong photographs than a large set to sort through.

4. Delivery Time

How long you wait for your photographs varies a lot between photographers, and it is easy to forget to ask.

What to check:

  • A date, not a range: “within three weeks” is more useful than “a few weeks”.
  • How you receive them: an online gallery, a download link, or a drive.
  • Sneak peeks: whether you get a few pictures early to share.

Worth paying more for if: you want your photographs quickly, for thank-you cards, a reception slideshow or family overseas.

5. Experience With Days Like Yours

Singapore weddings move quickly. A solemnisation can be over in half an hour, a tea ceremony in fifteen minutes, and the light can change from a bright living room to a dim banquet hall in the same day. Experience is what puts the photographer in the right place before the moment happens.

What to check:

  • Complete weddings: at least two full galleries, not just highlight pictures.
  • Similar days: a wedding close to yours in size, culture and setting.
  • Difficult light: how their pictures look indoors and at night.

Ideal for: every couple. This is the factor most worth paying for, and the hardest to judge from a portfolio alone.

6. Editing Style

A photographer’s editing style (light and airy, warm and filmic, rich and moody, black and white) takes time to develop and time to apply to every picture. A consistent look across a whole gallery is part of what you pay for.

What to check:

  • Consistency: whether the same look runs through a whole wedding, start to finish.
  • Skin tones: whether people look natural in every kind of light.
  • Longevity: whether the style is one you will still like in twenty years.

Ideal for: couples who already know the look they want. Choose the photographer whose everyday work already looks like that.

7. Albums, Prints and Extras

Some packages include an album or prints; many do not. Neither is better, but they make quotes hard to compare.

What to check:

  • What is included: albums, prints, canvases or only digital files.
  • What it costs to add later: if you decide you want an album after the wedding.
  • Ordering: whether you can order prints directly from your gallery.

Worth paying more for if: you know you want a printed album for your parents or for yourselves.

8. Travel and Location

Most photographers include travel within a certain area. Shoots further away, or at several locations, can add travel time and costs.

What to check:

  • Travel fees: whether they apply, and how they are worked out.
  • Several locations: how moving between places affects your coverage time.
  • Entry fees and permits: whether any are needed at your chosen location, and who arranges them.

Ideal for: couples planning a shoot or ceremony away from home, or across more than one place.

Conclusion

The price of wedding photography reflects much more than the hours on the day: experience, editing, delivery and what you receive all play a part. The fairest way to compare photographers is to put every quote on the same hours, the same number of photographers and the same deliverables, then look at complete weddings from each one.
